Cannabis Rescheduling Hearing: SSDP Calls for Full Federal Descheduling

Outside the DEA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, a coalition of drug policy reform organizations including Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), NORML, and the Drug Policy Alliance held a press conference during the federal cannabis rescheduling hearing to voice concerns over the lack of transparency and public participation in the DEA's decision-making process.

Speakers criticized the exclusion of medical experts, researchers, and advocates from the hearing while calling for meaningful cannabis reform beyond rescheduling. The coalition argued that moving cannabis to Schedule III is only a partial step and urged Congress to fully deschedule cannabis, end federal prohibition, grant clemency to those incarcerated for nonviolent cannabis offenses, and restore the rights of individuals impacted by past convictions.

Featuring powerful testimony from advocates and formerly incarcerated individuals, the event highlights the ongoing fight for justice, accountability, and comprehensive federal cannabis reform.
