Episode: 062 - THE ROAD TO CLEMENCY: KEVIN HARDEN & JIMMY ROMANS. 15 YEARS, A SECOND CHANCE & THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
The Road to Clemency with Kevin Harden and Jimmy Romans share their story of a federal cannabis conspiracy case that changed both of their lives, and the long fight to bring them home.
After serving 15 years of a 30 year sentence, Kevin received clemency from President Donald Trump, reuniting with his family after years away. His journey was marked by serious medical emergencies and concerns about the medical care he received while incarcerated. Within 24 hours of his release, Kevin was hospitalized to receive further treatment. Now home, he is focused on his recovery and making up for lost time with his children and grandchildren.
Jimmy Romans, who received clemency five years earlier, continued fighting for Kevin's release. Both men recognize the important role of criminal justice reform advocate Alice Marie Johnson, grassroots advocacy, letter writing campaigns, and the unwavering support of Kevin's wife, Melissa, and their family.
Together, Kevin and Jimmy speak out about the consequences of lengthy sentences for nonviolent cannabis offenses and call for continued action to help others still incarcerated. Their message to families fighting for their loved ones is clear, keep pushing, keep raising your voices, and never stop fighting for a second chance.
This is a story about perseverance, family, freedom, and the power of advocacy, and a reminder that behind every prison sentence is a human life and a family waiting for someone to come home.
